The Fisheries Integration of Society and Habitats (FISH) activity will increase social, ecological, and economic resilience to climate change and improve biodiversity conservation within freshwater ecosystems through sustainable fisheries co-management.
FISH will focus on a key cross section
of Malawian fisheries located in the Upper Shire Water Basin, the Southern shore of Lake Malawi, and the smaller lakes Chilwa, Malombe, and Chiuta.
Interventions will achieve the following outputs:Output 1.
Utilization of science, analysis, and information for decision making increasedOutput 2.
Enabling environment for conservation and management of freshwater ecosystems enhancedOutput 3.
Priority threats to freshwater ecosystem biodiversity reducedOutput 4.
Adoption of climate change adaptation measures that support resilience of communities and freshwater ecosystems increasedTaken together, increased knowledge (Output 1) will inform systems with enhanced capacity (Output 2) and catalyze actions for biodiversity conservation (Output 3) and climate change adaptation (Output 4) which will lead to increased social, ecological, and economic resilience of both freshwater ecosystems and people who depend on them.
